Summer

August 2, 2009 10:24 pm

I haven’t been home much this summer.  Shortly after school ended, I attended a photo class on Mt. Rainier for a few days.  Hiking in the snow above Paradise was the most fun I’ve ever had earning continuing education credits.

I went up to Friday Harbor for a few days and played golf, watched Orcas swim and flip about, relaxed, and enjoyed the sunshine.

A day and a half after returning from the San Juans, I was off to meet my parents for a trip to China to see Beijing, Xian, Shanghai and the solar eclipse.  It was quite an adventure and I’ll add an album when I can.

After spending a very hot and humid 10 days in China, I came home only to leave again during a huge heat wave in the Northwest.  I took a float plane to BC where I met some friends on their sailboat and sailed down with them to Friday Harbor.

Our last day of  my sailing vacation was my sister’s birthday.  She’s always on my mind. Every place I went, I thought of how much she enjoyed adventure and would have loved (or hated) each experience.

The Blake quote from an old birthday card she sent me often goes through my head.  Cindy was always encouraging me to live each moment. Though I’ve never had the number of activities she managed to fill her day with, I try to appreciate the beauty and contrasts around me. “To see the word in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour.”
