The beautiful clear turquoise water typical of the area.

We also walked by many farms, many of which encorporated old stone buildings into their houses or barns.

We also saw many butterflies.

The Boka waterfall- it's said to have the greatest volume of waterfalls in Slovenia.

Slovenia has developed outdoor tourism with rafting, fishing, mountain climbing, skiing, and "parachute related activities".

Cindy on a foot bridge. We also crossed a very similar bridge built for cars- it was slightly wider and had a few boards missing.

The exterior of the Uffizi. The Uffizi contains work of Giotto, Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rubens, Titian, Michelangelo, and Botticelli including the Birth of Venus.

There were street performers throughout Europe who were awful at pretending to be statues, some had make-up that didn't cover up their skin, material that flapped in the air, or were acting as mimes. This man was the only one who looked like a statue before posing with the boy.

The doors of the Baptistery. They were designed by Ghiberti using mathmatics to create the 3D illusion at the beginning of the Renaissance.
DSC02808.JPG
The Duomo- the amazing dome designed by Brunalleschi. The cathedral had an open ceiling for over a hundred years as they waited for someone to figure out how to create the dome.
DSC02787.JPG
The neo-Gothic facade of the Duomo is from the 1870's. Pink, green, and white marble all over.
DSC02818.JPG
The interior of the dome- the Last Judgement painted by Vasari and Zuccari.

DSC02855.JPG
A much closer view of the Last Judgement. It's not known for it's quality, but it was amazing to be so close to the fresco.
DSC02841.JPG
A view of Santa Croce from the top of the dome. It was constructed in the 13th and 14th century, but the colorful marble facade is again from the 19th century.

Michaelangelo's tomb in Santa Croce. It faces Galileo's tomb; monuments to Machiavelli and Dante are also in the church.

Spedale degli Innocenti. Brunelleschi designed the arches of the orphanage built in 1419.

Men in tights appeared while we were eating dinner and tooted their horns.

Back at the orphanage- watching the semifinals of the World Cup: Italy vs. Germany. Cindy and I looked a bit too German for at least one Italian military man. Non sono tedesca!
